Okay, not really, but we did write an article for this website:
Posted by So Yung on July 27, 2003 Babies For Sale Hey, check out this interesting article Sam-dol/Tobias told us about. It's from, like, '88. Posted by So Yung on March 12, 2003 Saturday Night Fever!! Tune in to 90.7FM KBOO this Saturday at 7pm to listen to Transracial Abductees talk about women, poverty, and transracial abduction. Check out this supergood paper by Sunny Jo: The Creation and Rise of KAD as a Separate Identity and Nation My favorite is the part about "Kadpropriation." Posted by So Yung on February 14, 2003 Transracial Abductees to Present at OSCC Conference Transracial Abductees is doing a workshop this weekend at the Oregon Students of Color Coalition conference in Corvallis, OR. We think our workshop will be on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at least, that's the day we're going. Read our workshop description . . . (more...) Posted by So Yung on February 6, 2003 Bridging the Gap Between 'Transracial' and 'International' Adoption Policymakers, adoption agencies, scholars and media in the U.S. tend to discuss "transracial" and "international" adoption in mutually exclusive terms, and both of these adoption worlds have the habit of ignoring each other. Applying a people of color-centered analysis, however, reveals the shared set of assumptions about race and "the best interests of the child" that underpin policy and practice in both domestic and international transracial adoption. Korean adoptees, long ignored in studies of Korean immigration and community, earn mention in a recent Washington Post article entitled "For Koreans, Changes in Store." 2003 marks the centennial of Korean immigration to the United States, and staff writer David Cho hypes Koreans as a "changing, assimilating community." Posted by So Yung on January 21, 2003 The World's First Ever Anti-Abduction 'Zine Yes, the rumors are true, my long-awaited 'zine, "I Was Abducted By White People" is now available. Click here to view and order online. The 'zine includes my abduction scrapbook, plus a new article on the foster care debate. It's a great holiday gift idea! Posted by So Yung on November 9, 2002 Required Reading for Angry Abductees So I just reread Sherman Alexie's Indian Killer, and it was kind of strange to realize how much it helped reinforce my thinking about transracial abduction the first time I read it. I didn't feel, like, so bad about being critical of my white parents after reading this. (more...) Posted by So Yung on October 4, 2002 BirthMarks: Feminist Racism in Contemporary America
There are lots of books out there about transracial abduction. They're usually called something like "Inside Transracial Abduction" or "Love Makes A Family." I thought I should try to read one all the way through, so I checked out this book called Birthmarks: Transracial Adoption in Contemporary America. It's by Sandra Patton, who at the time she turned her dissertation into this book was a visiting professor of women's studies at the University of Minnesota. Posted by So Yung on September 12, 2002 My Reverse Hall of Shame So, I'm continuing my futile search for some other website about transracial abduction that doesn't completely suck and I find this most upsetting web page for "The Multiracial Activist," a "libertarian oriented activist journal covering social and civil liberties issues of interest to individuals who perceive themselves to be 'biracial' or 'multiracial,' 'interracial' couples/families and 'transracial' adoptees." Whatever. The important thing is that they include the National Association of Black Social Workers in their Hall of Shame!! (more...) Posted by So Yung on September 5, 2002 NAIC Urges Abductors To Combat Racially Biased Remarks I recently found this website for the National Adoption Information Clearinghouse (NAIC). They have a section on transracial abduction. It's basically as messed up as anything else on the web, but I thought it was kinda funny how they tell abductors to deal with "racially or ethnically biased remarks" (they never ever say racism). One example: "I find your remark offensive. Please don't say that type of thing again." (more...) Posted by So Yung on August 26, 2002 Two Articles Added to "Abduction Politics" Section Article "Conscientious Abductors: White Feminist Justifications for Transracist Abduction" has been added to Abduction Politics section. Article "Abducting on a Budget: Agency Policies on 'Minority' Children" has been added to Abduction Politics section. Posted by So Yung on August 22, 2002 U.S. Department of State Aids Abductors On February 27, 2001, the "Child Citizenship Act of 2000" went into effect. The U.S. Department of State issued a press release stating that the new law "greatly streamlines the process by which foreign-born children of U.S. citizen parents can become U.S. citizens."
